Happy Friday and happy 2020 friends! Wow, were the holidays a total blur to anyone else? I’ve realized that as I age I need several days to recuperate from New Year’s Eve and so today is actually feeling more like the first day of the year for me. It also happens to be Leyton’s 2nd birthday! I can’t believe he is already 2! With that being said, I’m going to keep this post short and sweet so I can enjoy the day with him, but this post is too important not to do and it’s the perfect first post for the new year because it’s all about….how to make a vision board!
I tried to think up all the cute puns about 2020 as it relates to vision and vision boards, and well, I fell short. The best I could come up with is something along the lines of hindsight from 2019 being 2020, and how the best way to see 2020 perfectly is with a vision board. You saw where I was going, right?
Really the point is this….I have been doing vision boards for years and as silly or hokey and they may seem, I’m telling you there is something to them. There is true power in getting your dreams in front of you and visualizing what you want for your life. In my opinion, creating a vision board combined with prayer and belief in a higher power, simply makes things happen.
So, if you have goals you want to achieve in the coming year then NOW is the time to get them out in the open. Start today with these simple tips and then strap in for all 2020 has in store.
Okay, so there are really two ways you can go about doing a vision board. The digital way or the old school way. Either way is totally fine but I personally am a fan of old school (cutting out pictures and words and taping them to a board), because then you are sure to look at them daily. If you decide to do digital then I would either:
A. Make it a point to look at it daily.
B. Screen shot it and make it your phone’s home screen.
To make one digitally, you can simply make a Pinterest board called “vision board” or “future board” and set it to private and look at it daily. You could also add things to that board and then print them out to do the old school method. And while you’re there, be sure to follow me because I love new Pinterest friends and enjoy looking at your boards and repinning at the things.
The old school method is to buy magazines and physically cut out pictures and words (or, save your money and print from Pinterest or Google Images) then, get a piece of poster board and tape them to it and hang it somewhere you’ll see it daily. Mine is in my office.
Want to really go simple? Just write out your goals and dreams on Post-It notes and put them in several places where you will see them throughout the day.
Now, when you are searching for things to pin/print/cutout the options are truly limitless. Don’t get hung up on just searching for images though, search for words that align with your vision and phrases and mantras too. For example, I want to read my Bible more this year and do more Bible studies. I could print out a picture of a Bible or simply print out the words “study your Bible.” I also have the phrase “succeed in 2020” on mine and “become an early riser,” because those are things I want this year but there aren’t necessarily pictures to accompany them. Some other ideas for things to look for are goals or wishes as they pertain to your:
- Business
- Finances
- Relationships
- Health
- Home
- Personal Growth
- Family
- Travel
- Self Development
Those are just some ideas. If you have a word of the year or a mantra for the year (both things I highly suggest having) put those on there too and pictures of yourself of your family.
? Now, the last step is probably the most crucial part…..LOOK AT IT DAILY! You can cut and paste and re-pin all day long but if you just make it and shove it in a closet, it’s not going to have a chance to manifest. Again, probably seems hokey, but looking at it every day does something within your subconscious and really “puts it out into the universe” as they say.
?? Want to take it one step further? Each day when you look at it, close your eyes and visualize those big goals and dreams actually happening (it is called a vision board after all). Get as detailed a vision as you can. Picture it coming true each day and then picture how you’ll feel, what it will look like, etc.
??? Want to go really next level? Speak it out loud (if it didn’t seem hokey before I’m sure you’re definitely getting a little weirded out by now)! But you guys, just as something happens to your subconscious when you see it and believe it for yourself, something also happens when you physically call your shot out loud. You want to run a marathon? Declare out loud, each day, I AM A MARATHON RUNNER! You don’t have to do it in public, but in your car, in the shower, wherever. Speak it out! I’m telling you, hokey or not, there is something to it.
It’s January 3rd. Take today and the weekend to get your vision board made with these simple tips, look at it regularly, believe you are worthy of everything you put on there, pray on it and talk with God about it if you are also spiritual and get ready to have your mind blown. Happy 2020! See you next week!
