New year, fresh start! Welcome to my 2025 Decluttering Challenge. I’m so excited to have you joining me in getting our homes decluttered in the new year! This time around the goal is simple but effective! We aren’t going to overcomplicate it with a ton to do each day. Instead, the goal is to carve out a little time each day to move through our homes, and focus on getting rid of the things we don’t need. Along the way I’ll also share some mantras to remember, strategies and organizing tips for each space.
Whether it’s old clothes, kitchen gadgets, or random knick-knacks, we’re tackling clutter one step at a time to make space for what truly matters in 2025. Let’s thrive together—starting January 1st!
How the Challenge Works
This 30-day challenge focuses on daily mini-tasks designed to help you declutter your home without the stress. Each day, you’ll target a specific area like your closet, pantry, or junk drawer. Work at your own pace—no pressure!
Decluttering Rules to Live By
As you declutter it’s inevitable that you will encounter items you aren’t sure whether or not you want to part with. Now, if they are family heirlooms, expensive items or things that are not easily replaced then of course take time to decide whether or not you want to keep them. But for the everyday items or the things we convince ourselves to keep “just in case” here are some simple rules to live by that I learned from Josh and Ryan of The Minimalists and other resources over the years….
The 20/20 Rule
Can you replace it in 20 minutes or less for $20 or less? AKA, could you run to a store and get it again if needed? If yes, and you don’t really use it or love it, then toss it or donate it.
The 90/90 Rule
Have you used it in 90 days? Will you use it in 90 days? If no, then you can probably part with it.
Tips for Staying Motivated
- Use the hashtag #DeclutterWithJill on Instagram to share your progress and win prizes!
- Set a timer for 15 minutes each day—small steps add up.
- Pair decluttering with a playlist or podcast to make it fun.
