The holiday season is all about creating a warm and inviting atmosphere at home. One of the best ways to enhance that feeling is with comforting holiday scents. From baking vanilla in the oven to using essential oils and stovetop potpourri, here are seven easy, natural ways to make your home smell like Christmas and the holidays with cozy holiday aromas that will delight your guests and family alike.

How to Make Your Home Smell Like Christmas

7 Simple Ways to Make Your Home Smell Like Christmas

1. Bake Vanilla in the Oven

A trick often used when people are trying to sell a home to give that inviting, home scent, baking vanilla extract is the quickest, easiest way to fill your home with fragrance in a pinch. Just preheat your oven to 300°F, pour a few teaspoons of vanilla extract into an oven-safe dish, and let it bake for an hour. Your kitchen and surrounding rooms will be filled with a subtle, inviting aroma that smell like Christmas cookies have been baking for hours.

2. Pumpkin Spice Mixture

This one won’t necessarily make your home smell like Christmas but it does fill your home with the scents of the holidays leading up to Christmas. And even though it smells more like fall it would definitely work for Christmas and winter holidays too.

To Make: It’s just 4 Tbsp Cinnamon, 2 Tbsp Ginger, 1 Tbsp Cloves, 1/2 Tbsp Nutmeg

Combine the spice mixture into a spice shaker and sprinkle on the bottom of a removable stem of a carved pumpkin. Place a tea light inside and light and wow will you be amazed and how quickly it fills the room with cozy fall scents. It would also be good as a topping on a latte.

3. Stovetop Potpourri

Stovetop potpourri is an effortless way to make your home smell like Christmas and the holidays. There are several recipes out there but my favorite is to combine oranges, cranberries, cinnamon sticks, cloves, and star anise in a pot of water, bring it to a boil, then reduce to a simmer. Add water as needed to keep the scent going for hours.

It also makes a cute gift for a holiday party host or to gift friends and family. Just take a small Mason jar and add in the ingredients. For the orange use dried slices. All the recipient will have to do is empty the contents into a pot and add water.

4. DIY Vacuum Room Spray

Make your home smell like Christmas as you clean! Create a room spray for your vacuum by mixing water, a splash of rubbing alcohol, and your favorite essential oils, such as cinnamon, clove, or pine. Spray it onto the filter or bag to diffuse scent throughout your home as you clean.

5. Pumpkin Spice Cleaning Spray

Another way to make your home smell amazing as you clean, is with a pumpkin spice cleaning spray! It won’t necessarily smell like Christmas but it’s great to use all fall long.

To make: Combine into a spray bottle – 2 cups of water, 1 tsp baking soda, 1 tsp Castile soap, 30 drops pumpkin spice essential oil (or any other holiday fragrance).

Use it as you would any all-purpose cleaner, especially in areas like the kitchen and bathroom, for a natural seasonal aroma that cleans great too!

6. Wooden Ornaments and Essential Oils

Are you team artificial Christmas tree? If so here’s an easy way to make your tree smell like Christmas! Just grab some wooden ornaments and add a few drops of pine, cedar, or cinnamon essential oils all over them. Then simply hang them on your tree for the real Christmas tree smell without the upkeep of a real tree.

7. Candles and Essential Oils

Candles and essential oils are a classic way to enhance any room’s ambiance, especially during the holidays but so many use harmful or toxic ingredients.
